About Sinoe County

Sinoe County is one of Liberia’s oldest and historically significant counties, located in the southeastern region of the country. It is known for its rich cultural heritage, strong traditional leadership, and vast natural resources — from dense forests and rich biodiversity to fertile farmland and coastal fisheries. Sinoe is home to Sapo National Park, Liberia’s largest protected rainforest area, which plays a critical role in conservation and climate resilience.

Greenville serves as the county capital and administrative center. The people of Sinoe represent diverse ethnic groups and local traditions, united by strong community values and a shared commitment to progress.

County Governance & Administration

In line with the Local Government Act, Sinoe County operates under a decentralized governance system. Leadership responsibilities are carried out through:

  • The County Superintendent (chief executive officer of the county government)
  • County administrative departments
  • Traditional authorities
  • District and community leadership structures
  • The County Council, representing citizens at the county level

This structure supports stronger participation in local decision-making and better oversight of public services.

Hon. Alexander Nah Sleweon

Superintendent of Sinoe County
